Building at Rīgas Street 87

The building at Rīgas Street 87 was built in the 1930s as a post office building. At that time, there was a telephone and a telegraph.

During the Soviet time, there was communications unit and group III Communist work collective, which consisted of the Communist Party and a Komsomol group. The post office had 25 employees. Superintendent of the Communist work collective was Anna Venta.

From 1976 to 1980, the Communication Department collected 449.4 thousand roubles to reorganized telephone communications. They removed the old commutators and set up direct automatic communication with Riga and other cities. The collective repeatedly took award-winning places. The operator Ida Laime was awarded Medal of Honorary Recognition for good results at work.

Now the building is owned by “VAS Latvijas Pasts” and it still performs its original function of holding Baldone city post office.
